History of the Free Agency Era
This era is named after what it created: free agency. Established in 1966, it's implementation completely changed the structure of baseball.
After its creation and implementation, players saw a six-fold increase in average salary by 1979. This massive salary increase drastically
changed how the game was structured, favoring hitters over pitchers as was the case during the Expansion Era. Throughout this era, Nolan Ryan
dominated the MLB on the mound, racking up over 5000 strikeouts in his 27 year long career. This is kind of surprising considering how the
game was dominated by hitters during the this era, but his strikeout count dropped from 341 (last season prior to new era) to 260 (after the
start of the new era).
