History of the Steroid / Long Ball Era
As it's name implies, the Steroid era was dominated by both hitters and pitchers who were using steroids and other PEDs.
Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, and Barry Bonds are four of the most well known hitters who were known to be
using drugs at the time. As for pitchers, it didn't give you as much of an advantage because a lot of pitching is control,
but that didn't stop pitchers who already had great control from cheating. Roger Clemens, also known as "Rocket" (kind of
funny considering that nobody believed he was clean), was widely believed to have used some form of performance enhancing
drugs, though he never failed a drug test. On top of all this, there is a massive discussion that has been going on for
several years in the baseball community on whether or not these players should be allowed into the Hall of Fame. I feel
as though the majority of the community believes they should not be elgible for induction, as is clear based on the fact
that almost all players who were believed to have used steroids have not been inducted. Even Roger Clemens only received
65.1% of the votes on his most successfull ballot, still falling 10% of the requirement for induction.
